Storybooks with Australia

Australia is an amazing country to visit with kids. I’ve chosen some great books to get kids acquainted with the country if you’re planning to travel there or even just to learn more about Australia.

Animal Life. Two great picks are Where Is the Great Barrier Reef?, from the popular Where Is? series. This is a nice pick for elementary-age children. Outback is a non-fiction look at eight Australian animals delivered in a really unique format. The book features images that move as you turn the pages, as well as interesting facts about the animals and their habitats.

All About Australia. Two books that give a nice broad look at Australia are Living In… Australia, where Ruby narrates readers on a tour through Australia sharing bits of history, geography and more. Australia: Illustrated provides a different take, with illustrations of different aspects of Australia including animals, foods, and fauna. It is divided both thematically and by state and territory. Both of these books are good for elementary-age readers.

Aboriginal Stories. Stories From the Billibong is a collection of aboriginal tales of the Outback. Welcome to Country is the story of crossing boundaries across aboriginal communities in Australia.

Middle Grade Readers. The Adventures of Lola is a fairy adventure of a 13-year old girl, set in the Blue Mountains of Australia.
