Traveling to England Lonely Planet Kids Pop-Up London is good for younger readers and focuses on London. For an introduction to all of the United Kingdom, try United Kingdom: Travel for Kids, which focuses on the UK’s history, geography, culture and more.

Transportation. These two books will give a fun introduction to London’s iconic transportation: The Story of the London Underground and All Aboard the London Bus.

Music and Sports. Great for elementary or middle-grade readers, Who Were The Beatles? takes a look at the path to fame for the Beatles. For soccer fans, kids will enjoy My Football Hero: History of Premier League.

Books Set in England. Reading books set in the country you’re traveling to is a great way to provide an introduction to the country. For elementary-age readers, try Coat of Arms Conundrum: Perri & Archer’s (Mis)Adventure in England that follows two siblings on a time-travel adventure to Medieval England. For middle-grade readers, The London Eye Mystery is the story of two siblings trying to track down the truth of their cousin Salim’s disappearance from aboard the London Eye. Finally, the Newbery Medal award winning Crispin: The Cross of Lead is the story of a teenage peasant in medieval England accused of a crime he didn’t commit.

History. Where is Stonehenge? explores what we know (and don’t) about these famous monuments. Three Lines in a Circle: The Exciting Life of the Peace Symbol is a picture book that tells the origin story of the peace symbol, beginning with a London activist protesting nuclear weapons.

Local Author. A children’s classic, The Secret Garden, accompanies Mary Lennox as she explores beyond her uncle’s mansion to discover a secret garden.
