Storybooks with Italy

If you’re family is getting ready to travel to Italy, I’ve selected some of the best books to get kids acquainted with the country. They also just make great reads to learn more about Italy. Here are Storybook List’s picks.

Famous Italians. Two choices here will help kids get acquainted with some of Italy’s most famous artists. First, I am Leonardo da Vinci is part of the Ordinary People Change the World Series. It includes a timeline of events, childhood moments that influenced the artist, and is perfect for elementary-age readers. Stone Giant: Michaelangelo’s David and How He Came to Be tells the story of how David was created.

Stories Set in Italian Cities. Several favorite storybook characters make an appearance in cities across Italy. Olivia Goes to Venice follows Olivia family vacation highlighting features of the city. Madeline and the Cats of Rome will introduce elementary readers to Rome with beautiful illustrations. The picture book Ciao, Sandro! features Sandro the dog gondolier on his journey across Venice. It includes a basic glossary of some Italian word.

Architecture. The Wonders of Florence is a pop-up book that features the architecture and history of Florence and describes famous landmarks and shares basic facts.
